Combat Boots

So we're back to fancying combat boots again... When I was in grade school, my parents bought us these pair of boots. You know those boots that we used for school that was "in" during the 90s. It kinda look like the combat boots I see now on my Tumblr dashboard.

On my feet

Anyway, the reason why I am posting about combat boots is that I just heard on the radio this morning while on my way to work that our soldiers prefer wearing slippers on their missions. It's because boots are heavy and cause discomfort to soldiers when they wear 'em. And instead of bringing corn, sweet potato and other carbo-alternatives, they bring Skyflakes with them because the former are heavier than the latter. Wow. How ironic... those who need combat boots for their work don't really wear them while those people who don't really need it, wear it for fashion. All for the love of fashion.

I'm out now. Gotta wear my own boots and kill 'em people.

October Ukay

The whole month of September for me was stressful which made me lose weight (yes, again!) and get sick most of the time. I didn't have much time to enjoy because I prioritized finishing the requirements first. I'm a badass crammer so all the paperworks were piled on my table and I only accomplished them all last month.

Anyway, they say Shopping cures depression. I say, UKAY CURES STRESS. Heh.

Every month, I always shop at the nearest thrift store to update my closet. My mama gets mad every time I go thrifting. "Ang dami dami mo ng damit! Hindi mo naman nasusuot!!" Haha! My ukay addiction started when I was in high school. But during those times, ukay-ukay or thrift stores were only found in Baguio and La Union. The only time I get to thrift is when we visit the province. Last year, my sister found out that the nearest (tiangge) mall from our house just opened a thrift store. Since then, my sister (she's also an ukay addict) and I couldn't stop thrifting. We do it on a monthly basis though.

This year, based on my observation, the number of thrift stores in the metro increased. I think it is because it clicked here. I'm glad that I was able to influence some of my friends to go thrifting. Ukay-ukay stores used to have this misconception that their clothes are from dead people.  Lol. Yeah, some of them were already worn by people we actually do not know. The only thing you should know when thrifting is that you check the quality. You are very lucky if the item is new and branded. When you get home, make sure you wash them first. Some people soak them in hot water and Lysol. I don't. I just wash them with detergent. If you find an item that you really like but the quality isn't good, you can have it fixed or hemmed.

Anyway, too much introduction for my Ukay Addiction. Here are the items I bought:

The ones on the left are leggings. I bought them in a tiangge store. I don't buy leggings in a thrift store for an obvious reason. I bought 5 items in the thrift store: a denim oversized polo, gray oversized shirt, red zebra print shirt, floral printed + polka dots mini dress and a lacy cardigan. All 5 items are worth P170.00. Heh.
